Analog Sensors

NVE’s AA and AB-Series analog GMR and TMR sensors have high sensitivity, excellent temperature stability, low power consumption, and small size. Their unmatched versatility make them an excellent choice for a wide range of analog sensing applications from rugged industrial and automotive position, speed, and current sensors to low voltage, battery-powered sensors for handheld instrumentation, and implantable medical devices.

AA-Series sensors use NVE’s patented spintronic materials to provide a directionally-sensitive output. These sensors are sensitive in one direction in the plane of the IC. These devices provide omnipolar output, that is the same output for magnetic fields in the positive or negative direction along the axis of sensitivity. All sensors use a temperature compensating Wheatstone bridge configuration. Five AA-Series families are available: the standard AA-Series; the AAH-Series; AAL-Series; the AAT-Series, and the AAV-Series. Their key characteristics are summarized in the following table:

Digital Sensors

Digital Sensors

GMR Switches integrate GMR sensor elements with digital signal processing electronics. These sensors are more precise than other magnetic sensors, and magnetic field operate points are stable over voltage and temperature extremes. GMR Switches can operate over a wide range of magnetic fields, and are available in SOIC8, MSOP8, 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm TDFN6 packages, or 1.1 mm x 1.1 mm ULLGA packages.
NVE offers five series of GMR Switch sensors:

  • AD-Series TDFN/MSOP Digital Sensors; 4.5 V – 30 V supply voltage
  • ADL-Series 1.1 mm x 1.1 mm Digital Sensors; 2.4 – 3.6 supply voltage; duty-cycled versions available
  • ADV001-Series bipolar (south field ON, north field OFF) TDFN Digital Sensors
  • AFL-Series TDFN digital sensors; 0.9 V – 5.5 V supply voltage
  • AHL-Series 1.1 x 1.1 mm Low-Voltage Digital Sensors; 0.9 V – 2.4 V supply voltage; duty-cycled versions available

AD-Series Precision GMR Digital Sensors are the industry standard for sensitivity and precision. Models available in a wide variety of magnetic operate points, output configurations, and package types.  AD8xx and AD9xx versions also have Short-Circuit Protection (SCP) circuitry. GT Sensors

GT Sensors

NVE GT Sensors are designed for detection of gear teeth and magnetic encoder wheels in industrial speed sensing. The digital sensors use high-sensitivity, low-hysteresis GMR to detect even the smallest gear teeth and to provide a 50% duty cycle output with wide airgap and temperature tolerances. Unlike other magnetic sensing technologies, NVE’s GMR sensors withstand extremely large magnetic fields. GT Sensors are available with analog or digital outputs. Dual-output versions are available with the second output phase shifted with respect to the first for quadrature to determine direction. MSOP8, TDFN SO8, and TDFN6 packages allow GT Sensors to fit in the tightest spaces. An evaluation kit is available with a variety of sensors, magnets, and PCBs, and a demonstrator allows you to experiment with a sensor-gear airgap.

Peripheral ICs

DB-Series Power Switch ICs

DB-Series Power Switch ICs ICs are designed for industrial control applications requiring a digital current output of up to 200 mA. They feature transient protection to meet rigid EMC and ESD standards, thermal shutdown for temperature protection, reverse battery protection, a regulated voltage output, an on-chip LED driver, and short-circuit protection for an output transistor. The DB001-00 is designed to complement the AD9xx-00 short-circuit protected GMR Switch to create a very small combination for miniature sensor assemblies. The DB002-02 is designed to provide a high-current output from from any digital input, including inductive or photo sensors.

DC-Series Voltage Regulators

DC-Series voltage regulators are designed for high voltage, low current applications. They allow up to 60 V input voltage range and meet applicable 42 V automotive standards. They are available in 3.3 V and 5.0 V outputs and feature excellent transient immunity and reverse battery protection. A 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm TDFN6 package provides a small footprint, and an exposed lead frame allows for heat sinking.

DD-Series Signal Processing ICs for Analog GT Sensors

DD-Series Signal Processing ICs are designed to complement ABL-Series GT Sensors to provide a highly-stable current-modulated digital output signal for ABL-Series sensors or other sinusoidal output sensors.

NVE offers sensor evaluation kits at nominal cost so customers can evaluate these remarkable devices. A number of kits are available:

AG001-01—Analog Sensor Evaluation Kit

This kit features several types of NVE’s AA and AB series parts, a selection of permanent magnets for activation or bias purposes, and circuit boards to mount the parts for testing.

Evaluate gear tooth sensors for measuring rotational speed with a variety of analog and digital GT Sensors, plus the DD001-12 stand-alone signal processing IC. AG921-07—AKL002 Gear-Tooth Sensor Demonstrator

NVE’s newest evaluation kit is a self-contained demonstrator for NVE’s unique AKL digital gear tooth sensor. The battery-powered demonstrator (battery included) is based on an AKL002 sensor. The demonstrator also includes a circuit board with an LED and driver, a biasing magnet, and a gear that can be turned by hand. No assembly required. Dimensions 3″ x 3″ x 1.5″.

AG93x-07—Angle Sensor Evaluation Kits

Includes an evaluation circuit board with a reference design AAT-Series Sensor and a unity-gain buffer amplifier. A split-pole magnet and a plastic magnet locating fixture are included in the kit. An angular reticle on the circuit board aids in characterizing output versus angle. Three versions are available for three different AAT-Series sensors:

AG932-07—ADT002 Rotation Sensor Evaluation Kit

The kit includes a circuit board with an ADT002 low hysteresis, ultralow-power rotation sensor, a split-pole magnet that can be turned, and simple circuitry to drive LEDs from the sensor outputs. Two LEDs follow the sensor outputs; four others indicate the rotational quadrant. A 3-volt coin cell (included) powers the board.

AG040—Nanopower Sensor Demonstration Boards

These kits include demo boards with the ultraminiature, ultralow-power ADL021 magnetic switch. An LED shows the sensor output. A bar magnet is included so you can see for yourself how these remarkable sensors work. Sensor quiescent current is only 100 nA typical; the sensor operate point is 20 Oe; and the sensors are 1.1 mm x 1.1 mm. These miniature evaluation boards are just 0.25 x 1.57 inches (6 x 40 mm). There are two versions: the AG040C is externally-powered, and the AG040B is powered by a coin cell (included), and the sensor quiescent power consumption is so low, the battery will last indefinitely.
